Adalo — real native apps, predictable price
What it is: Adalo is a visual, drag-the-screens builder whose whole point is producing real native apps you can publish to Google Play and the Apple App Store.
What it's great at: getting a small, standard mobile app — login, lists, profiles, simple bookings, push notifications — into the stores without code, at a predictable flat price with no usage-based surprises.
The honest limits: it's best for fairly standard apps; complex logic gets awkward, and performance can wobble as data grows. On pricing, note the fine print: the entry Starter (about $36/month on annual billing) publishes a web app; app-store (iOS/Android) publishing starts on the Professional tier, roughly $52/month billed annually or about $65/month billed monthly. What it's great at: ambitious web products where the logic matters: marketplaces, dashboards, internal systems, SaaS MVPs. If you need genuine custom behaviour on the web and don't want to hand-write it, Bubble is one of the most capable no-code tools there is.
The honest limits: two big ones. First, it has a real learning curve — "no-code" here doesn't mean "no skill." Second, and more important for your wallet, Bubble charges by Workload Units (WUs) — a measure of how much server work your app does. Plans run roughly Free, Starter ($29/month annual), Growth ($119/month), and Team ($349/month), each with a WU allowance. What it's great at: it's the most "developer-grade" of the visual builders. Real native apps on both stores, and — crucially — if you outgrow it, a developer can pick up your exported Flutter code and keep going instead of starting from scratch. That single feature changes the risk of building on it.
The honest limits: it's priced per seat (roughly Basic $39/month, Growth $80/month for the first seat) and it does not include a backend — your data usually lives in a separate service like Supabase or Firebase, which adds its own cost and setup. The AI app builders — Lovable, Bolt, Replit, v0
What they are: the 2026 new wave. Instead of dragging blocks, you type what you want — "a booking app for my salon with these services and UPI payment" — and the AI writes the app. Lovable, Bolt.new, Replit and v0 are the names you'll hear.
What they're great at: speed to a first, clickable version. For a prototype, an internal tool, or testing whether an idea feels right, they're genuinely impressive — you can go from a sentence to something on screen in minutes.
The honest limits — and these are big:
- Most of them make web apps, not native store apps. Lovable, Bolt and Replit generate apps that run in a browser. They look fine on a phone, but you generally cannot submit them to the Apple App Store or Google Play as a normal native app. If your goal is an app icon on the store, this category mostly doesn't get you there today.

Two honest patterns jump out. When most Indian business owners say "I want an app," they picture a specific thing: an icon on the phone, downloaded from the Play Store, that customers can find and trust. In India, a real Play Store listing is a trust signal as much as a technical choice.
But Glide, Softr, and the AI builders (Lovable, Bolt, Replit) mostly produce web apps — they open in a browser, can be saved to the home screen, but are not the native store app you pictured. That's not "bad." Web apps are genuinely fine for internal tools, portals and lots of simple services, and they're cheaper and simpler. Let me make this concrete. This is a composite of real projects, with the numbers laid out honestly.
A salon owner wants an app: clients book slots, see services and prices, pay a deposit by UPI, and get reminders so they stop no-showing. Standard, sensible small-business app. Here's how the routes actually play out.
